ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Sellers of men’s suits and sneakers will soon be making tracks for Winrock Town Center.

Men’s Wearhouse and Skechers footwear are relocating from other brick-and-mortar locations in Albuquerque, and are expected to open in late August at the open-air mixed-use development, according to Pegasus Retail President Anthony Johnson, Winrock’s leasing agent.

Men’s Wearhouse, which sells a wide variety of clothing and formal wear, will occupy a new building rising on the southwest corner of the shopping center, said Johnson. The new 6,000-square-foot retail space is a larger footprint than the chain’s current location at 6307 Menaul NE, said Johnson.

“It’s a great spot,” he said. “You’ve got 150,000 vehicles that pass by” each day.

Tailored Brands Inc., which owns the Men’s Wearhouse and Jos. A. Bank suiting chains, has 20 percent of the men’s clothing store market in the U.S., according to IbisWorld, a market forecasting firm.

Skechers also is shuttering a store in the Pavilions at San Mateo for larger retail space at Winrock. “They’ll be taking over a portion of the old Sports Authority store,” which has been vacant for a while and encompasses about 11,000 square feet, said Johnson.

Both new tenants will be in close proximity to Nordstrom Rack, David’s Bridal and TJ Maxx.

Johnson said the Nordstrom brand is a strong attractor in luring the new and future tenants to Winrock, which was bought by Goodman Realty Group in 2007. Nordstrom’s Rack sells apparel, accessories and shoes, including some clearance goods from full-line Nordstrom stores.

Also in the works for Winrock are a 350-unit apartment complex and plans for two hotels on the site — one a limited service brand and the other a full-service property, said Johnson.
