Mother brutally kicks her child model daughter after the child failed to pose properly in a shoot

A Chinese mother has been accused of child abuse after being caught on camera brutally kicking her three-year-old daughter while the girl was doing modelling work.

It is believed that the mother was not satisfied with the girl’s performance during a commercial shoot, therefore she wanted to punish the girl.

A 10-second trending clip shows the child, who was wearing a yellow top and a white skirt, being savagely kicked in the backside by her mother.

The parent has apologised in public.

The shocking video was filmed on Monday evening in the city of Hangzhou after the girl, known as Niu Niu, had been working all day, according to a video report from BJ News.

It is said that Niu Niu has worked as a fashion model for about six months and is popular among online stores who need cute children to pose for pictures while wearing their products.

One shop owner, who has worked with Niu Niu, told BJ News that the girl – not yet old enough to go to nursery – had overworked. He explained that her mother had sought ‘many orders’ from various clients at the same time to make money.

In China, an experienced child model can earn 80-150 yuan (£9-17) for each outfit they model. They are usually required to complete one shoot within four minutes, or 15 shoots in an hour.

Footage of the incident was uploaded to the Chinese social media yesterday and quickly went viral. Viewers were shocked by the mother’s behaviour and accused her of child abuse.

A trending topic page titled ‘the person who kicked the child model during photoshoot is her mother’ has gathered more than 360 million views on China’s Twitter-like Weibo.

One commentator ‘Tang Xiaowan’ wrote: ‘The poor child is used by her parents as means to earn money and has to endure violence.’

Another angry viewer ‘xa_lzx’ claimed Niu Niu had been employed as an illegal child worker and that police should get involved. The viewer said: ‘The child was not performing, she was working.’

A third Weibo user ‘ye you yao rao’ said: ‘The child is so young and has already worked many orders and lost the happy childhood she should deserve. And her mother even behaved like this. This is scary.’

One of Niu Niu’s clients, a shop called ‘Sweet Grandpa Baby’, has condemned the parent. On its Weibo page, the store wrote: ‘We only realised today that [Niu Niu’s] mother is so unloving. This is infuriating.’

Many shops have removed pictures featuring Niu Niu in protest against her parent’s behaviour.

Niu Niu’s mother, who remains anonymous, issued a public apology today on Weibo.

She thanked the public for giving her advice and pointing out her mistake, but denied the allegations of child abuse.

She said she had not intended to harm the girl and felt ‘deeply sorry’ for the matter. She begged the public to forgive her.

In a follow-up interview with BJ News, she explained what happened in the video.

She claimed that Niu Niu had kept running towards the road and the day was getting dark, therefore she acted out under stress.

The mother said she loved her daughter, but added: ‘No parent could claim that they have never beaten their child. I rarely beat my child normally.’

She said Niu Niu did not sustain any injuries as a result of the kick.

There is currently no law in China to prevent parents from using their children to earn money.

Lu Bing, a lawyer, urged the authority to establish relevant laws and regulations to ban young children from taking part in commercial shows and photo sessions.

Lu told China Women’s Newspaper that companies and parents should not ‘overspend’ children for their own interests.
